A rhinoplasty reshapes and refines the appearance of the nose, producing a nose more in keeping with your wishes. Most commonly this involves reducing the size, straightening or changing the tip of the nose, although many other changes can be achieved. If you have difficulty breathing through the nose, then this can be corrected at the same time.
Rhinoplasty in our Houston clinic is performed through incisions on the inside of the nose, and sometimes at the base of the nose (columella), and are rarely noticeable. The shape of the cartilage under the skin is changed by removing or reshaping the cartilage with sutures, and the bones are repositioned. After the surgery there is a splint on the nose, and sometimes a pack or splints on the inside of the nose if the nose has been straightened.
In our Houston clinic, Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic either as a day surgery or overnight stay, depending on the amount of change required. Following the surgery you need to rest quietly for the first week or so. After the surgery there is some bruising and swelling that usually goes after two weeks, and some numbness over the skin of the nose that takes some months to disappear. Most patients return to work within two weeks, but heavy activities and sport should be avoided for 1 month.
The final result is often not obtained until 4-6 months after the surgery, with changes later than this being possible.
